Mother Earth Cultural Conservation Society (MECCS) is dedicated to protecting and restoring the sacred relationship between people, culture, and the natural world.
Founded by Elder Arthur Morgan, along with his friend John Skoda and his son Dario Antoine, Arthur is a proud member of the Bonaparte First Nation, part of the Shuswap Nation, with a deep-rooted connection to the land near Cache Creek, BC.
For over 10,000 years, the St'uxwtews people have lived in harmony with nature, taking only what was needed and caring for the land that sustained them. However, in recent decades, the environment has been devastated by over-logging, urban expansion, and climate change, leading to severe damage to the rivers, forests, and wildlife.

The restoration and preservation of the Bonaparte First Nation (St'uxwtews) Traditional Lands and Culture to be passed down through the generations for all people.

We are committed to preserving the wildlife and environment through sustainable practices, ensuring that the land is taken care of for all generations to come.

Community members around McLeans Lake came together with a shared goal: to protect the land, wildlife, and cultural knowledge that had sustained generations. These early conversations planted the seeds for what would become MECCS.
A small group began organizing under the name Mother Earth Cultural Conservation Society (MECCS). Early efforts focused on community engagement, traditional teachings, and exploring sustainable land management practices.
MECCS became a registered non-profit society, built on the principles of cultural preservation and environmental stewardship. This milestone marked the start of coordinated programs and partnerships.
As awareness grew, MECCS formed strong relationships with local Nations, schools, and environmental organizations. Volunteer programs and youth engagement became central to the Society’s mission.
Guided by respect for Mother Earth, MECCS continues to protect local ecosystems, share traditional knowledge, and strengthen community ties — ensuring cultural and environmental heritage thrives for future generations.
